How to Choose the Right Siding Material For Your Home
If you are building a new home or upgrading your siding the options can be a bit overwhelming. There are dozens of options available, each promising durability, cost effectiveness, and style. At E&E we have decades of experience with a variety of different siding types, and have learned which work best for different durability and budget needs. In this blog post we will be taking a look at our favorite siding types and when to use them to help you decide which siding is right for your home.
LP Smartside Siding
We have been using LP Smartside Siding for years because of its durability and color flexibility. It is resistant to moisture and insects, doesn’t rust or dent, and doesn’t need to be repainted which will save you money in the long run. LP Smartside is extremely low maintenance, and should never be pressure washed. To clean LP you simply need a cloth or sponge with a mild detergent.
LP Smartside is also the most customizable when it comes to appearance, allowing you to find something that matches your aesthetic perfectly.
Diamond Kote Pre-Finish
We also offer our LP Smartside with Diamond Kote pre-finish, a premium paint product that has become extremely popular in the last few years. Diamond Kote is a formulated finish that consists of pure metal oxide coolants extracted from rocks. This formula is much less porous than other paints and stains, allowing it to repel dirt and moisture. Using Diamond Kote also saves you money in the long run, as its color doesn’t fade or need repainting.

Fiber-Cement Siding
Fiber-Cement siding has been gaining popularity due to its incredible durability and style. Fiber Cement is made from a combination of water, wood pulp, fly ash, and cement, materials that were chosen specifically to withstand extreme weather conditions. This is an extremely popular option in areas prone to hurricanes and beach communities where salt usually wreaks havoc on homes’ siding and roofs.
Fiber-Cement siding is also very versatile in it’s style and installation options. We use James Hardie, which comes in lap, shingle, and panel styles. The siding is available in a vast color palette, and it’s stamping process emulates traditional wood siding better than most other alternatives.
Optimal Conditions: Extreme Weather
Cedar Wood Siding
Cedar Wood Siding has been used on homes since the 1800s and is a style still sought after today. Most of the new siding technologies coming out today are meant to resemble cedar siding, but few are able to truly capture the natural grains of cedar.
Cedar Siding withstands the elements better than other types of traditional wood siding, but requires more maintenance than vinyl and fiber-cement. If you stain or paint cedar it needs to be refinished every 3-7 years.
Optimal Conditions: Calm-Moderate Weather
